the power of magic | courtney kirby
We are so excited to introduce you to Courtney from @courtneyandthebabes; a lot of you may already be familiar with her from her beautifully curated Instagram & online store.
Like a lot of my beautiful connections, Courtney & I met through Instagram & I then went to one of her + Rachel (from @rockandco) crystal + oil courses in Sydney. KKJ has been stocking Courtney’s delicious sprays & rollers for some time now (I have an essential roller for everything since connecting with her).
She is not only a creative & an incredibly talented women, she is a breath of fresh air on social media, with her honestly & rawness that she has shared with her followers since day one.
I wanted something for me. I’ve always used essential oils and loved making my own topical blends and playing around with natural skincare products.
Friends and family started asking for custom blends so I thought it might be a good opportunity to see if my followers on Instagram would be interested. I already had a website for my woven wall art which was doing pretty well so I decided to add the essential oil roller blends to the website and it kind of just took off. Instagram has been a solid foundation for me to grow my business and spread the C+B word.
Essential Oils can be used to support physical and emotional wellbeing and there is an oil for everything! Oils are a powerful, natural medicine and when used in a safe way can help to balance the body, promote healing, boost immunity, aid digestion, lessen pain, boost mood and memory and decrease inflammation.
Instead of having a cupboard full of different pills and chemical filled liquids and cleaning products I’ve got my box of essential oils. The most popular oils are lavender, frankincense, lemon, tea tree and peppermint.
There are no rules with the C+B mists. Although I like to use mine for certain things… Cleanse when I’ve had people in my home, I like to keep the energy calm and positive in my safe place.
Dream misted over my linen before bed, the smell of amber makes you want to get all cosy and warm.Lover is used as a perfume when I’m getting ready each morning, I’ll spray my clothing. Nirvana before meditation, I find it very balancing. I also spray it around my home after I’ve done a big clean. There’s a new mist launching in June called Bloom, rose, neroli, tangerine and mandarin with peach aventurine for manifesting your heart’s desires. I can’t wait for you to smell this one, it’s quite feminine and fresh.
I assume some may think I’m a little too honest but you know what? I am who I am. Life isn’t always easy. I think my followers appreciate that I’m an open book. They can relate to the “real life” side of me, I’m not just someone who sells a product.
There’s a woman behind C+B who is finding her way in life, learning valuable lessons, doing her best and sharing her story. Instagram can be a negative place at times… but then again, I’ve had the pleasure of bonding with some beautiful people because of this social platform. I’d hope that people wouldn’t hold my honesty against me and really appreciate the love and time that goes into the creation of my product range.
Ah I don’t even know. I make time. When you love what you do, you make it work. I’ve currently got one employee who I don’t even like to call an employee… She’s more an angel. Genett works two days a week and we work hard those two days.
The other days I spend juggling single parenting, making product, packing orders, emails, making time for myself like going to the gym and spending time with my partner Justin.
I love to travel so whenever the opportunity arises for a workshop or business trip I make it happen. There are days where I feel overwhelmed with the workload, I don’t like to disappoint a customer or stockist who may have to wait an extra day or two for an order.
I’ve always been a believer in magic. The universe has a way of showing you where you’re meant to be if you allow it and don’t fight it . No event can really be judged as good or bad, lucky or unlucky, fortunate or unfortunate, only time will tell the whole story. I think we waste a lot of time judging minor inconveniences as misfortunes or investing tons of energy into things that look outstanding on the surface, but may not pay off in the end.
Try to live life in moderation, keeping as even a temperament as possible (which I’m still trying to do), taking all things in stride, whether they appear to be ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ Life is much more comfortable and comforting if we accept what we’re given and make the best of our circumstances. Rather than always having to pass judgement on things and declare them as good or bad, it would be better to just sit back and say, “It will be interesting to see what happens.” I believe if you allow the process to take place without having to be in full control you’ll find yourself in a place that may surprise you but also bring you contentment.
I was in a sad place in my life 18 months ago. I was no longer married, I was alone, I was single parenting, the financial pressures of life were overwhelming… Some days I struggled to put a smile on my face, I struggled to cook dinner for my babes. But I pushed through and today after lots of work on myself (with plenty more to do) I’m in a happy relationship with someone who makes me feel so loved, a small business that is covering my bills and two healthy kids who tell me they love me.
